Christmas decor for your home this year

Christmas is ahead and so is the start to the festivities. One of the best times in the year when we eat, meet and greet our near and dear ones. We look forward to set a mood with all the décor, food, lights and love every year. But of course, with a different décor and theme.

To start with, I want to give a little information that, I bought a Christmas tree this year on my daughter’s demand. Shopping a pine tree is not a usual task for me every season. Last I bought it, was 10 years back. But this time on her demand I bought a bigger one. Five feet tall to be precise, just to make her happy. As a designer my motto is decorating each and every nook and corner of home. But this doesn’t apply on her. For her its all about her secret Santa and the Christmas tree. Let’s see a few ideas through my eyes for your beautiful homes this year.

Play with colors and textures

Instead of the traditional colors opt for a few non-traditional colors like gold, unicorn silver and also some royal blues etc. to decorate your home. Traditional red and green stays and can be used in a corner but not necessarily used everywhere. Use varied metallic votives to light the candles

use a checkered colored blanket on the dining table instead of the usual table cloth. The stripes will definitely add a grandeur to your table.

Add your collectibles wisely and create vignettes.

Keep adding your collectibles into your festive kitty and color coordinate always. Obviously buying them at once will cost a bomb to your pockets. Display them in a new way and your home is new again.

Usage of greens at your home

Always try to use the existing resources at home. Use the green from your garden for e.g., adding the pines, junipers and spruce and decorate it in the form of garland or wreath by adding silvery pinecones, twigs and berries.

Don’t leave any part of your home undecorated.

Festivities are all about being happy and moreover being happy in our own newly created space. I personally do up all my rooms even if it is my kitchen or my washroom. Oh, I certainly don’t do this to flaunt it to the outsiders but just for feel-good factor. I like to hang small but elegant wreaths and garlands on to my kitchen storage units and also club a few votives on my island to bring the festive liveliness to my most used space. This way baking and cooking isn’t boring anymore right?

Bring yellow to your décor when it is chilled outside.

Imagine the warmth of the summers when it is snowing or so nippy outside. Yellows as I mentioned in my previous blog is a warm color will bring lot of warmth to your home. Try it, it really works well. I have tried this when we were posted in the mountains.

Make the gift wrapping more interesting

Christmas is all about gifting and sharing love. So why not gifting it the right way? Choose nice colorful gift wraps it brings zing under your tree as it counts just as much as what’s on it. For example, for a summer themed Christmas choose a cream handmade paper to wrap the gifts, add a golden bow and a dried leaf painted in red beneath the bow. This way you create personalized gift wraps and share loads of love.

Nuts and candies in the jars

I personally do this every time, especially with my transparent jars. Color coordinating the cookies, nuts and candies filled in these jars is so much fun. Color in the food can be coordinated with the color outside and how?

So, dear readers this was my take on the Christmas decor for your homes this year. Do let me know about the topics you want me write about. Looking forward to have your comments and suggestions.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas 2020 and a Happy New Year 2021. Stay blessed and stay creative !!

Love
