Hey dear readers. I am back again with yet another blog for you all. Just imagine how beautiful a poetry or a story looks with all the elements of a language. Perfect usage of phonetics, grammar, metaphors, semantics, pragmatics etc. makes a story or poetry classic. It’s the same in case of vignettes. A very less used term in our day to day lives “vignette” has a definition of its own in terms of the creator and their thought process just like a story which has its own name as per the story line.
Well according to me, a vignette is a small, curated style statement of an individual, combined with the different group of objects or elements to create oneness through colours, textures, forms, shapes etc. vignettes can be displayed on floor, console tables, coffee tables, on the shelf or anywhere else in your home. Surprizing it is! but we create them without even realizing.
Let’s see how we can create vignettes with these simple tips and tricks:
- Firstly, choose the base or place on which you want to create the vignette. It can be your corner table or your coffee table or your console.
- Collect the objects to be brought together. The objects can be of any shape, any colour, any size and any form. Don’t forget to choose the hero or star object of your vignette. The other objects you select will play as accessories and will help to build a storyline for your masterpiece. For example, if you want a coffee table vignette, you can look for a fancy mirrored tray, a few candles, a small curio, a few pebbles, a green plant and a beautiful sculpture. Now you can build a storyline taking the sculpture as your anchor or the mirrored tray and build your storyline around these elements and create a beautiful vignette.
- Start Placing the elements from back to front. That means the taller objects first and then start placing the smaller ones. Remember layering is very important or else you will not be successful in achieving oneness.
- Have you ever noticed a florist asking you the number of flowers to be added in the bouquet? Not sure? Like symmetry can be boring at times the evenness too cannot help attain what we want. Yes, odd is perfect sometimes. Go for odd numbers like three, five or seven while grouping or arranging.
- Keep admiring what you arrange, ask for the second opinion, and keep editing. This is a great mantra to the perfection. Keep doing this till the time you “get it all right”. There is no harm in trying and shifting the objects in various positions. I personally keep changing their positions every now and then and more than me, my maid does so, while dusting. Believe you me she does wonders sometimes. Some days the object which is in the extreme left on the mirrored tray doesn’t look happening when I place it. But some days the same object looks perfect at the same place when my maid does it unknowingly. It’s the state of your mind too you see!
- Don’t hesitate to add or subtract a new object or vice versa. Change is the only constant in life. This process helps look your vignette fresh always.
- Do mindful buying. I really believe in this and have stopped frivolous shopping a long back. Set a concept and theme for your home. Like you do for your wardrobe. You cannot wear anything and everything right? Create your signature style. Your home should reflect you and only you.
- Another important thing is to create a vignette on the day when you really are optimistic and happy and also when you are really bored. I create a few good designs when boredom strikes me. I know that I should be a little modest and not be so boastful about myself. But your mood plays an important role always.
