Hello dear readers !!! How are you all ? In this blog I am going to share a few facts and ideas based on Vastu.

Vaastu which is more relatable, scientific and applicable in our day to day life. I happened to learn after the formal completion of my interior designing course that, Vaastu is an integral part of our day to day lives and it affects the occupants of the building in some or the other way. As far as I understood Vaastu, it is more scientific than religious or spiritual. ‘Vaas’ in Sanskrit means to reside and hence it is the study of the habitat (where we stay). Let us go through a few aspects of Vaastu which are easily relatable.

OPTIMUM USE OF THE SUNLIGHT

A perfect Vaastu is created when our house is aligned perfectly with the laws of nature. Laws of nature as in, sunlight, air and water etc. So, here I am only going to talk about the light and air/wind. We get four energies from the sun which are- light, heat, electrical and magnetic energies respectively.

In this scenario, we need the light energy more so that our space is well lit throughout the day and because of which, we try to look for openings in NORTH, NORTHEAST and NORTH WEST directions for a simple reason of the sun being less harsh in these directions. As the thermal and visual comfort from the sun is balanced.

A perfect Vaastu is created when our house is aligned perfectly with the laws of nature. Laws of nature as in, sunlight, air and water etc.

“Sun rises in the east and sets in the west” this a sentence which we mugged up in our childhood to fill in the blanks and to answer the questions related to sun. An intriguing fact here is that, the sun moves from NORTH DIRECTION to SOUTH DIRECTION and then sets in the WEST. I think now it is easier for you to understand why the northern directions should have more opening than the others. For fetching the best of the sun and wind. If the sun is strong the wind too is warm. If the sun is mild the wind too is cool and soothing. So, try and keep your doors and windows open in these directions, use light and airy curtains, let the wind and the extra oxygen enter to bring lots of freshness into your home.

THE DRIPPING WATER

Water is a very touchy topic for me personally. Especially when I see it getting wasted, whether it is left loose to drip from the tap or from the  overhead tanks and also when the tap is left open while washing clothes and utensils etc. There is a contradictory feeling here, at one hand flowing water soothes our souls and relaxes our mind whereas, on the other hand continuously dripping water irritates us. Have you ever thought of it why it happens so?  According to Vaastu, water should not be wasted as it affects the cash and liquidity. Also, to some extent our emotions too. Wasting water is like wasting money. And what’s wrong in this logic? We are barely left with fresh water in the whole earth if we don’t save it now, we are eventually going to spend money for drinking water and other needs. So, the logic works here right?

THE MIRRORS IN YOUR BEDROOM

The mirrors should be avoided in bedrooms or if not possible then they should be covered. Let’s see why I am saying so.

Mirror has a property of expanding spaces or we can say it creates an illusion. It adds a feeling of boastfulness when we are Infront of it. We think about ourselves more. Probably, that’s how we add mirrors to our dressing tables.

Bedroom is a place to sleep and relax and there should be no space for any negative aspect while sleeping where we are in our subconscious and trans state.

One more fact about mirror is that it reflects negativity too as much as positivity it reflects. But a clear logic to avoid mirrors in the bedroom is that bedroom is a place to sleep and relax and there should be no space for any negative aspect while sleeping where we are in our subconscious and trans state. No, no, that doesn’t mean we can’t have a dressing table in our bedroom. I suggest you cover it up before sleeping. Cover your televisions too. That is also a mirror. Though hazy but reflects. Oh, and a great idea is to have a rotating mirror over your dresser. What say?

AVOID SINK IN THE KITCHEN

Kitchen is the most important place in our home. It is the source of our food and nutritional requirements. According to Vaastu we should avoid keeping dustbins beneath the sink. There is a great scientific reason behind this statement. The dustbins attract the rodents and insects into the kitchen. The sink area as we all know is moist and is a perfect habitat for them. No, don’t ever think that they are going to restrict themselves being in the sink forever. They will creep in slowly to the pantry and the rest of the house to discover more friendly habitats for themselves. So, what’s the solution to this problem?  If possible, try to avoid washing utensils in the kitchen. Plan a small basin in the kitchen for cooking purpose and a big sink in the utility, hence the disastrous dustbin and the sink move out of your kitchen and with these the cockroaches and the rodents too.

TRY TO PLACE THE BEDHEADS IN SOUTH DIRECTION

A study shows that the Humans on an average sleep for 8 hours a day. By the way, have you heard about the electromagnetic field of the earth? If no, then I should make you aware that the electromagnetic field has waves which flow from the NORTH POLE to the SOUTH POLE. When we sleep keeping our heads towards the north just imagine the amount of the waves, we are constantly getting exposed to. The maximum exposure to the magnetic field harms our brain. Just keep in mind, that our mind is the software and our brain is the hardware. Again, a valid question arises here that, wouldn’t our feet get harmed due to the EM waves. The answer is no, because our feet can take the shock of the EM waves because of the thick skin we have.

This was all about my logical presentation of the Vaastu which I have learnt and understood. What do you feel about it? Do comment and let us know. It will be great interacting with you all. Like and share our blogs. For now, Ciao!!!!!
